Where and how we work

We have been asked to create really meaningful funeral services all over Oxfordshire and beyond. We’ve arranged for services to take place in people’s back gardens. In pubs. In a multitude of different religious churches, meeting houses and temples. We’ve worked extremely closely with Oxford University Colleges to hold funeral services in their chapels. In crematorium chapels and natural burial grounds. We also arrange military funerals with utter precision.

It is really important for us to work in a way that suits each individual client. Some of our clients want to tell us everything they would like and then leave us to put everything in place for them. Other clients need a much more collaborative experience and want to take control of certain elements.

Oxford is a pretty international city and we know people don’t necessarily live here. We have been working by phone and email to arrange funeral services since the day we opened and is something we are very used to. While we love meeting people at our office to talk everything through, we are equally happy working in a remote way if this is what suits you best.
Over the years, we have had every opportunity to grow. To have multiple offices and hire more staff. However, Lucy has actively chosen to stay small. We have space to care for exactly 5 people within our mortuary facilities. Most other funeral directors will have between 10 and 160 spaces. That means 10 to 160 clients they are working for at any one time.

By remaining deliberately small, we can monitor the people we are asked to care for very carefully. Lucy herself checks people twice a day so we can be reactive to their needs. It also means that we can be extremely attentive to our clients and are literally on call to them 24:7 and you are always guaranteed to speak with Lucy no matter what time you call.

We are a Recommended Funeral Director by the Good Funeral Guide. They inspect our premises. They spend a lot of time talking to us about every aspect of our company. You can see what they have written about us here – https://directory.goodfuneralguide.co.uk/funeral-directors/the-individual-funeral-company/

We’ve also signed up to the Funeral Director Pledge which you can find using the button below:

For The Individual Funeral Company, caring for people, both living and dead, is the most important thing we do. It’s not something we ever take for granted and we always put our clients firmly in control.
